BUSINESS LICENSE

The City of Luverne requires each person, firm, corporation or other business entity to obtain a business license prior to conducting business in the City of Luverne, or its police jurisdiction. The license year is January 1 through December 31. Business license renewals are due in January and delinquent after February 14th each year. Proof of State Certification is required for certain classifications.

BUILDING PERMIT

Things requiring a building permit: 

• All new construction
• Additions to existing structures
• Mobile home placement
• Accessory structures (this includes but is not limited to: detached garages, carports, storage buildings, swimming pools, etc.)
• Major interior alterations (excluding painting, floor covering, cabinet replacement)
• Demolition of structures

All contractors and sub-contractors on residential/commercial projects must be licensed by the City of Luverne. YOU MUST HAVE A STATE GENERAL CONTRACTOR’S LICENSE FOR ELECTRICAL, PLUMBING, AND AC/HEATING TO GET A CITY BUSINESS LICENSE.

NOTE: No building shall be erected, reconstructed, or altered unless a permit has been approved or issued.

YARD SALE PERMIT

The City of Luverne requires a yard sale permit in the corporate limits of the City.

To obtain a yard sale permit, come by City Hall located at 22 E. 5th Street.
